Principles of Clinical Research
All volunteers who participate in GCRC studies benefit from the Center’s commitment to the education and training of healthcare professionals involved in clinical research. That commitment is showcased in the "Principles of Clinical Research" course which is offered yearly at the University of Connecticut Health Center by the GCRC. The course is intended for physicians and other healthcare professionals who plan a career in academic medicine and patient-oriented research. Major topics discussed include epidemiology, the investigation of the causes of epidemics and ways to control them; biostatistics, the use of statistics in medical research; basic molecular and clinical laboratory techniques; survey techniques; study design; and grantsmanship. The course also covers a host of issues related to the Center’s work with volunteers, including communication skills; ethics and responsible conduct of research, and appropriate use of human subjects. |
